Lagos State Government In Partnership With SANDECO Commissions Fire Fighting & Rescue Vehicles

It was a memorable occasion on Thursday, October 27^th, 2022 at the Government House, Alausa, Lagos State as His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudia Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, members of the Lagos State Executive Council and other senior members of the Lagos State Cabinet all filed out for the Grand Commissioning Ceremony of scores of SANDECO Group’s World Class Fire Fighting and Rescue Vehicles.

The event which celebrated the formidable partnership between our Group and the Lagos State Government witnessed the attendance of eminent guests from across the world including doyens of business, high profile traditional rulers, top bankers, members of the diplomatic corps, civil servants, alongside the 2022 graduating class of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, who graduated amidst pomp and splendour. The newly enlisted fire fighters mounted an impressive guard of honour which was inspected by Mr. Governor before they commenced their spectacular parade in celebration of the day’s event to the excitement of guests.

Several speakers at the event which included the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the outgoing Honourable Commissioner of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins as well as the Deputy Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, DCG Teslim Ogunloye, all praised Mr. Governor and the Government of Lagos State stating that Lagos State stands out from its peers because of its willingness to lead the nation by investing heavily in emergency response infrastructure.

While making his remarks, our Group Chairman / CEO, Mr. Vincent Southey Effiong commended Mr. Governor and the Lagos State Government for their relentless hard work and visionary leadership in embarking on such a monumental project, noting that the provision of such magnitude of emergency response infrastructure would orchestrate an atmosphere suitable for widespread development through the influx of local and foreign investment. He also stated that investors were now assured of the safety of their human and capital resources, describing Lagos State as the foremost state government in Nigeria. Our Chairman / CEO reaffirmed Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service as the No. 1 Firefighting and Rescue Agency across all of Africa, assuring Lagosians that they will henceforth witness formidable responses from firefighting crews whenever called upon. He further stated that the vehicles being handed over to the state, were masterpieces of world class design, engineering and craftsmanship, reiterating that they had been customized exclusively for the Lagos State Government.

In his speech, Mr. Governor lauded the SANDECO Group for our boldness, tenacity and audaciousness in accepting this huge responsibility while thanking us for the trust we reposed in the Lagos State Government to meet their obligations to the project. Mr. Governor also alluded to the partnership with the SANDECO Group expressing a desire for future collaborations. He also appealed to members of the public to support and cooperate with fire fighters when incidents occur, reminding them that the new vehicles indeed belonged to all Lagosians while imploring citizens to take ownership of the vehicles. Mr. Governor also rallied the new graduates encouraging them to be bold, fearless and determined in carrying out their sacred responsibility to protect lives and property.

Mr. Governor immediately proceeded to cut the tape marking the official commissioning of the vehicles. The Governor along with invited guests were then taken on a tour of the vehicles by our Group Chairman / CEO explaining the capabilities of each category of the newly commissioned firefighting and rescue vehicles. During the tour, a demonstration by the SANDECO technical team was performed with the 30Mt Hydraulic Aerial Ladder to the delight and amazement of all guests present.
